I love polaroids. A few summers ago I saw an exhibition of them in Los Angeles, it was wonderful. They'd lined the walls with 2-inch deep shelves, maybe 2 feet apart vertically, 3 of them per wall. And then just wet the polaroids out, one after another. I walked round and round the room for hours, looking at every one of them, making stories about them in my head.

thank you for this post!

had read about the discovery of maier's photographs somewhere before, yet it is deeply moving to see the material... such a marvellous, generous & compassionate eye on life, close-up.

and, at the same time, the realisation of the many burden(s) such a dedicated activity must have generated, not least financially, for vivian maier.

I love Baldessari. His method is so beautifully simple and it works. Find a loaded gesture - in movies say - and set it off alone with various forms of negation until you get nothing but the potential meanings. The most sensual poet of negative space. The Matisse of conceptual art.

I could listen to him all day. I love the way he segues between explanatory lecturing and suggesting a cappucino & smoke with no perceptible change in tone or rhythm.
I saw the Fondation Cartier exhibition 2 years ago. It was good - particularly the extracts from his notebooks & doodles. I like the idea of him working with lithographs - they would suit his subjects and approach to painting - and the hidden theatre setup is great, too. Good excuse to go back to Paris :)
Have mixed feelings about his later film work - but I have to say, if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be writing this message on your Tumblr.
